New Practice Direction on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Tribunal Proceedings: Now in Effect

As communicated in the advance notice issued on January 29, 2026, the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) has implemented a new Practice Direction regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in OLT proceedings. Effective for all proceedings commencing on or after March 30, 2026, parties, participants, and witnesses must disclose any use of AI in creating or generating content within documents filed with the Tribunal.

If generative AI is used to create content in a document, the first paragraph of that document must include a declaration, as noted in the Practice Direction.
